This summer make sure you are fully prepared for a
stress-free move. Packing during the hottest season of the year means you need
to take extra precautions to be sure all of your belongings arrive safe and
secure.
Here in the South it can get pretty hot. Really hot,
actually. So hot, it’s tough to go outside. But for some reason summer is the
most popular time to move. So if you fall into the category of summertime
movers, here are a few things to think about before you begin:
First, the easy part. Sketch a floor plan of your new house and
label each room. Then, once everything is packed you can label the boxes to
match the room shown on the plan. This will make the job of the movers much
easier.
Next, begin to pack. This is usually when the stress factor begins
to rise. Stuff gets broken, pieces of equipment go missing. But if you pack
smart, everything will work out fine. For belongings that have multiple pieces,
tape or fasten them together. Also, try and keep everything grouped according
to which rooms they will be going in.
You can never use too much bubble wrap. Make sure everything
breakable is surrounded by soft, foamy materials. Don’t take chances on
anything. Even though you have professional movers, the smallest movement
inside the box can cause fragile pieces to crack or break. It’s also important
to have as many objects as possible inside boxes. This will keep them out of
direct sunlight and heat, which can cause fading, or even melting.
On the day of the move keep all doors to both houses shut as often as
possible. Obviously they will be opening and closing a lot because of the
heavy in and out traffic, but you want to keep the inside as cool as possible. Also,
try not to have your boxes sit on the porch or sidewalk for too long. The less
exposure to heat the better.
