Summer Moves aren't Easy- Here are Our Packing Tips

TNT Moving Systems wants your summer move to go as smoothly as possible. That's why we can help you with every part of the move- even the packing.

This summer make sure you are fully prepared for a stress-free move. Packing during the hottest season of the year means you need to take extra precautions to be sure all of your belongings arrive safe and secure.

Here in the South it can get pretty hot. Really hot, actually. So hot, it’s tough to go outside. But for some reason summer is the most popular time to move. So if you fall into the category of summertime movers, here are a few things to think about before you begin:

First, the easy part. Sketch a floor plan of your new house and label each room. Then, once everything is packed you can label the boxes to match the room shown on the plan. This will make the job of the movers much easier.

Next, begin to pack. This is usually when the stress factor begins to rise. Stuff gets broken, pieces of equipment go missing. But if you pack smart, everything will work out fine. For belongings that have multiple pieces, tape or fasten them together. Also, try and keep everything grouped according to which rooms they will be going in.

You can never use too much bubble wrap. Make sure everything breakable is surrounded by soft, foamy materials. Don’t take chances on anything. Even though you have professional movers, the smallest movement inside the box can cause fragile pieces to crack or break. It’s also important to have as many objects as possible inside boxes. This will keep them out of direct sunlight and heat, which can cause fading, or even melting.

On the day of the move keep all doors to both houses shut as often as possible. Obviously they will be opening and closing a lot because of the heavy in and out traffic, but you want to keep the inside as cool as possible. Also, try not to have your boxes sit on the porch or sidewalk for too long. The less exposure to heat the better.

Lastly, hire a quality company to do your moving for you. A company known for excellence and professionalism. A company like TNT Moving Systems.

Moving in July? Tips on How to Stay Cool and Safe

On average, July is the warmest month of the year in the Carolinas. The average high temperature, according to The Weather Channel, is 89° and the low is 68°. There are also intermittent thunderstorms to contend with throughout the month. But July continues to be one of the most popular months to move. “Summer is our busiest time, so we are careful to stay hydrated, cool off when necessary, and protect our client’s belongings,” says Todd Koepke, co-owner of T-N-T Moving Systems in Charlotte.

How to Combat the Heat?
You know it is going to be hot. So how do you keep you and your family safe during your move? Even if you are using professionals, like T-N-T Moving Systems, you will need to oversee the moving process.

1.       Stay Hydrated! Sure, beer is fun to drink or offer friends that help you move. But in July’s heat, you need Water! The potential for dehydration is just too high during summertime. Make sure to have cold water for yourself and your movers. Gatorade and other sports drinks can also be helpful, but nothing takes the place of pure H₂O.

2.       Schedule the Transfer of Utilities Early! Since the summer months are the busiest time of the year to move, utility companies are overwhelmed with getting people’s service switched on and off. Call the utility company early and make sure to get your electricity switched before the move. A day or a few hours before the movers are set to arrive, be sure to have you’re A/C cranking. This will help alleviate the heat of the outside as the movers unload the truck.

3.       Book your Moving Services in Advance! Be sure to call T-N-T Moving Systems in advance to ensure your preferred moving date. Summer time is busy, especially the end of the month and weekends. If you can move the week before or after the end of the month, you are more likely to book a moving company. T-N-T moves clients everyday of the week and is flexible to meet their clients’ needs.

4.       Protect Belongings from the Heat! On unusually hot days, it is important to keep certain items cool. Candles can be vulnerable to the heat and melt in the moving van. Also, be sure to transfer food in a cold cooler. Even if you are just moving across town, it is important to keep frozen and refrigerated items cold during the summer heat.

5.       Protect your pets! Summer heat can be especially hard on our fury friends. If you are doing an across town move, consider boarding your pet for the night. Your pet will stay cool and hydrated and worry-free. Pets can get anxious during all the action of a move. Boarding them will help them stay calm. The next day you can introduce them to your new home.

T-N-T Moving Systems has over 20 years experience moving in the Charlotte. “We have seen are fair share of hot summer days!” says Tom Tulowiecki, co-owner. The easiest way to beat the heat is to leave it to the professionals. Keep your  A/C running,  bottles of water on hand, and let the professionals do the rest.

What to do Before the Movers Come!

What to do Before the Movers Come!

What to do before the Movers Come!

It’s Moving Season! Summer is the busiest time of year for transition. At T-N-T Moving Systems, we are well prepared for this time of year. Recently, a friend on Facebook asked about what they should do before the movers come. She had never used professional movers before and was stressing out about what she needed to have prepared. We thought that some others might have the same questions.

What you need to get done before the movers come depends greatly on what type of service you want. If your company is paying for the moving service, be sure you understand the details of the service.

·         Are the movers going to pack and unpack your belongings?
·         Are the movers just going to load, transport, and unload your belongings?

Tips on Using Professional Movers

Move and Pack Valuables Yourself- This includes jewelry, cash, guns, photographs, important documents, medicine, and of course, Pets. Consider packing these items separately and take them in your own vehicle.

Know what Can and Cannot Be Moved- Most movers will not pack or move opened items like food, household chemicals, paints, or liquids because they could spill during the move and cause harm to other items. If moving specialty items like pianos or large safes, be sure the movers have agreed to move these before the day of the move.

Packing- If you are packing up the small stuff yourself, use plenty of newspapers, bubble wrap, towels, and blankets for breakable or fragile items. If you do the packing, the movers may not be responsible if items in boxes break during transport.

Pack Smart- Pack one room at a time and label or designate a tape color for different rooms. Be sure to get rid of unwanted items before the move, so that you are not wasting time packing stuff you don’t need or want. Avoid putting packed boxes on furniture because movers usually load the furniture into the truck first.

Get Insurance for the Move- Most professional movers, like T-N-T, can provide insurance for the move. You can usually choose from insurance by the pound or comprehensive insurance. By the pound is cheaper, but if you have a lot antiques, comprehensive coverage is a better bet.

Have Drinks and Snacks- During the busy summer season, movers are often booked back to back. It is difficult to take a break or stop by the store, so think ahead and have cold drinks like water or Gatorade handy. Also, provide portable foods like energy bars or fruit for a quick boost.

Pack an Overnight Bag and Essentials Kit- Keep the first night in your new home simple. It is sometimes impossible to remember where you packed essentials even if you labeled everything! Pack your pajamas, a change of clothes and toiletries for each member of the family in a suitcase. Also, pack in a box or plastic tub, clean sheets for each bed, toilet paper, towels, cell phone chargers, pet food, and paper plates and cutlery. After a long day of moving and setting up furniture, you will want to eat, take a shower, and sleep in a clean bed.

Have Cash on Hand for Tips- Moving is a tough job, show your appreciation for their hard work by giving them a tip. It’s not expected, but appreciated.

T-N-T Moving Services can handle your whole move from across town or across the country. Depending on your budget, we offer a variety of services. If you want a full service move, we can pack, load, transport, unload, and unpack. If you only need help moving the heavy stuff, we will help with that, too.
