Are Moving Expenses Tax Deductible?

T-N-T Moving Systems is here to help you move around the greater Charlotte area in the most efficient and easy way for you and your family. Moving can be an exciting time or dreaded time, depending on many circumstances. If you are finally moving into your dream home then it is one that will be very exciting but if you have to move for your job, for the government, or because of a natural disaster then the move might not be so exciting. However, what you might not know is that moving expenses are often tax deductible.

If your move is work related, you might be able to deduct moving expenses from your federal income taxes. To qualify for tax deductible moving expenses, you must work a certain amount and your prior home must be located an unacceptable distance from your new job.

The location of your new career must be greater than 50 miles from your previous home to previous job. If you were unemployed or worked from home then your new place of work must be at least 50 miles away. Once you move, you must be working full time for at least 39 weeks in the first 12 months this is considered a reasonable about of time to justify moving.

Of course, there are exceptions to these rules. When it comes to factors like death, disability, and involuntary separation, amongst others, the rules may be different depending on your circumstances. If the cause of your move is due to being a member of the armed forces, you do not have to satisfy the distance or time requirements.

The IRS allows you to deduct expenses including the cost of packing, transporting your goods, storage, insurance, connecting and disconnecting utilities, lodging and transportation while moving.
Unfortunately, meals and house-hunting expenses are not deductible. Also, breaking a previous lease is not considered deductible.

T-N-T Moving Systems is here to help you make the most out of your move. Moving can be a lot of work. All the packing and transportation of your belongings can be a challenge, stressful, and tiring but with T-N-T Moving Systems you can relax. Let Tom and Todd take care of everything. Safe Neighborhood, Save Moves, Safety, Safe Neighbors, School, Moving, Movers, Charlotte NC

Charlotte, North Carolina has a lot of wonderful neighborhoods, but just like every city, it also has neighborhoods with a high volume of crime. T-N-T Moving Systems is a Charlotte-based business that has been working out of Charlotte for almost two decades and we want to make sure you and your family pick the safest place to live. So before you start packing your bag, take a look at the Charlotte Crime Map and local school districts which are tools you can use to find your family the best area for your new home.

Whether you are moving to a new house, an apartment, or renting a place to stay, location matters. Charlotte, NC is a wonderful city with a lot of wonderful opportunities, but not every neighborhood is filled with friendly faces. Before you move, take a look at the Charlotte Crime Map to help you decide if the area you are looking at is a safe place to live. The map lets you see all of the incidents of crime that have taken place in the Charlotte area. It shows different types of crime, such as drugs, robberies, and shootings. The map will give you a good idea of what the crime is like in the area you are thinking about moving.

The next thing you should consider doing before you move is checking out the schools nearby. If you have children, no matter their age, it is important to make sure they are getting a proper education in an environment where they can feel comfortable. With a simple search online, you can find the school district for all residential locations. Type the address of your desired home into the “See What School District You Are In?”  Tool, it will ask for your child’s grade and what type of school you would like them to attend. This tool will help you make sure you are sending your children to a school that will help them succeed.

Once, you have confirmed the neighborhood you want to move to is safe and has a good school district, give T-N-T Moving Systems a call at 704-523-1455. What To Do When You Are In Between Moves (Plan Your Temporary Housing if Your New Home is Not Ready in Time for Your Move)

Moving,Where to Move, Apartment, Airbnb,Houses,Homes, Charlotte NC

So you are all ready for the move but there is one problem: you have to move out of your current location before your new location is ready! Whether it’s a week, a month, or even a couple of months, it’s a dreaded problem that T-N-T Moving Systems can help you resolve!

Storage
First thing’s first, where to store your belongings? The last thing you want is to have to haul everything your own in between homes, apartments, or hotels while you wait for the big day! Make things easy and let T-N-T Moving Systems load up all your furniture and store it in their temperature controlled storage units.

Where to Stay
This is the tricky part. The best place to stay really depends on the length of time and the number of people in your family. There are several options to consider!

Airbnb
If you have a few nights, or even a month, Airbnb has a number of housing options that could be useful. If it is just you, you can find an inexpensive place to crash for a night or two by searching for a shared space. This means you could sleep on someone’s couch.

Airbnb also offers private rooms. If you are looking for a place for you and one or two others, getting a private room is a great option. These are rooms that are private but offer shared places like the living room or kitchen area.

Now if you like full privacy, or need a space for the whole family, you can search for an entire house. Airbnb offers homes for rent that can accommodate your whole crew. Whether you need a couch, a room, or an entire home, Airbnb has options. You can rent a place for a single night or search for extended stay for longer periods of time.

A Hotel
Hotels are often very small spaces and can be pricey. If you just need a place to stay for a night or two, a hotel might not be a bad choice. But if you need a place for a longer amount of time, this option can become quite pricey. Many hotels do offer options and discounts for week-long stays.

An Apartment
If you need a place to stay for a few months you could get a short-term apartment. Many apartments offer leases for as short as three months. But, beware these prices are usually prorated and can be very expensive. You might also consider checking with the apartment for other short term stay options. Many apartments have places that they rent out by the night. So if you like your own space this could be very helpful.

As you approach the big moving day, give T-N-T Moving Systems a call. We can load your belongs in a moving truck, store your furniture and belongings in a temperature controlled unit, and move your items to the new location.
